- Hits: 4950
The ICGLR established a partnership with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies based in Geneva to build the capacity of officials from the ICGLR member states through regional training programmes. The project is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for a four year period from 2011 to 2014.
The aim of the project is to contribute to the objectives of the ICGLR Pact on Security, Stability and Development for the Great Lakes region through the organisation of regional training programmes.
The objectives of the training are twofold:
To develop the participants’ understanding of regional dynamics, neighbour countries’ priorities and faced challenges, as well as other relevant issues for conflict prevention.
- To reinforce participants’ negotiation and communication skills.
The trainings concentrate on regional issues such as peace and security, democracy and good governance, conflict resolution, migration, human rights, economic development as well as regional integration.
The project foresees to develop an alumni network, thereby trying to improve communication within and among Ministries of the same country and to improve inter-State collaboration within the Great Lakes Region.
