  • ICGLR Mini-Summit on Political and Security Situation in the Central African Republic. Luanda 20 April 2021

ICGLR Heads of State Mini-Summit on Political and Security situation in the Central African Republic on the invitation of H.E João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and the ICGLR Chair. Luanda-Angola, 20 April 2021

The Acting President of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) took note, with great satisfaction, of the unilateral   ceasefire   decision   throughout   the   Central   African Republic, as of 15 October 2021, announced by His Excellency Professor Faustin Archange Touadéra, President of the Central African Republic (CAR).

For this reason, the ICGLR welcomes the Central African people, as it considers the ceasefire decision, the recognition that open and constructive dialogue between all the active forces is the best way to achieve peace and stability for a long time wished by the Central African people.

The ICGLR welcomes the progress achieved and calls on all political and military actors to comply with the ceasefire and the Principles of  Political  Agreement  for  Peace  and  Reconciliation  in  Central African Republic Peace (APPR-RCA), negotiated in Khartoum and signed on 06th February 2019 in Bangui, as reference in the search for a lasting solution to the Central African crisis.

The   ICGLR   congratulates   His   Excellency   President   Faustin Archange Touadéra for the firm and determined manner in which he has sought to meet the recommendations of the 3rd ICGLR Mini- Summit, held in Luanda on 16 September 2021

The ICGLR reiterates that the ceasefire is an indispensable factor for the success of the whole process, for creating a propitious climate that allows for a development towards, peace and national reconciliation, as well as the implementation of the Joint Roadmap for  Peace  in  the  Central  African  Republic,  approved  on  the  3rd Mini-Summit held in Luanda, including the Demobilization, Disarmament, Reintegration and Repatriation (DDRR) program.

Finally, the ICGLR calls on the International Community, in particular the United Nations Security Council, to renew its confidence in the ongoing political process in the Central African Republic and to provide all necessary support for safeguarding the safety and promotion of the well-being of the Central African People.

Luanda, on 16 October 2021.
